How to configure a Domain to run both Admin server and Managed server (SOA_SERVER1) in the same JVM

In this post you will learn how to create a Domain in Weblogic server in which both Admin and Managed servers (soa_server1) will run on a single JVM. To know the advantages of running both Admin and Managed servers in a single JVM read my previous post.

If you want to create a WebLogic domain with Oracle SOA Suite in the WebLogic server, you must install Oracle SOA Suite (C:\ORACLE_SOA11g\Oracle_SOA11.1.1.2) in the same Middleware Home (C:\ORACLE_SOA11g).

1) Start the Configuration Wizard from the Start Menu as shown below –

2) Select the ‘Create a new WebLogic domain’ option and click Next as shown below –

3) Select the options as shown below and click Next.

4) Give any name for “Domain Name” and click Next as shown

5) You can give any password (make sure you remember the password) and click Next

6) Select “JRocket SDK” from Available JDKs as shown. Please do not select “SUN SDK” as it was giving me errors while accessing the Domain. Not sure when it need to be used. So for now you can proceed with ”JRocket SDK“.

7) Provide values for DBMS/Service, Hostname, Port and Schema Password as shown below. In my case, I had used XE database and given same password for all schema while creating using Repository Creation Utility (RCU). So my password is Welcome1 and click Next

It will try to connect to the Schema as shown

9) Once all the schema connections are successful you will see the below screen and click Next

10) Click Next

11) Click Next

12) Click Next

13) Click Next

14) Click Next

15) Move the AdminServer from left-side to under LocalMachine on right-side as shown and Click Next –

16) Click Create to create a Domain

17) You can view the progress in the screen as shown

18) After successful creation of the Domain you will see the below screen.

Now You have created a Domain in Weblogic server in which both Admin and Managed servers (soa_server1) will run on a single JVM.

Which is the step that causes all the managed servers to run in a single JVM?
What if I want to change the configuration to run in multiple JVMs – how would I do that after the fact?

we have done as per the instructions given in your blog. However, when we start Administration server, the managed server also not getting started. Is there any other set up needs to be done please clarify…

  3. I am curious to know “Which is the step that causes all the managed servers to run in a single JVM”
